Hydrosols – the gentle essence of plants

Hydrosols, also known as floral waters or plant waters, are produced during the steam distillation of essential oils. During this traditional process, selected plant parts such as flowers, leaves, herbs, or needles are treated with steam. The valuable plant ingredients dissolve and are then condensed again.

After distillation, two natural phases separate: The essential oil usually floats on the surface, while the plant water below is collected as a hydrosol. This contains the water-soluble plant components as well as the finest traces of the essential oil.

Hydrosols are characterized by their particularly mild nature and their natural plant scent. Depending on the plant used, they have individual properties and are traditionally used in skincare, aromatherapy, and for room fragrancing.
